Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs - Book Review

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - Ransom Riggs

Series: Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children

Publication date: June 7, 2011

Genre(s): Young adult, Dark fantasy

Summary:

This book tells the story of a boy, Jacob, who is consumed by the mystery of his grandfathers death. Clues, based on the stories his grandfather used to tell him, like curious photographs lead Jacob to an abandoned orphanage on a Welsh Island. As Jacob explores the empty bedrooms and hallways, he discovers that the children aren't just peculiar, they may have been dangerous. And put on a deserted island for a reason. And somehow -as crazy as it sounds- they may still be alive.

Jacob is determined to find out every last secret about Miss Peregrine and her peculiar children. And he doesn't have to find out on his own. In a strange way, Jacob gets caught, while exloring the orphanage for clues to these children, by a group of children itself. He gets caught up in all kinds of adventures. But soon becomes clear that Miss Peregrine and her children are in great danger. And Jacob seems to be their only hope.

Characters:

Jacob: Jacob is a very curious boy, who has wanted to find Miss Peregrine's home ever since the stories his grandfather told him when he was a little boy. But he is also brave and determined to help these children. I admire Jacob.

Abe: Abe is Jacob's grandfather and shared a love story with a peculiar child when he was younger. He told his grandson his adventures and showed him the strangest photographs. Of a girl who could hold fire, an invisible boy, a girl with a face on the back of her head and so many more.

Emma: Emma doesn't like Jacob in the beginning, he is too strange and different for her to handle and she thinks he's dangerous. And Emma, you see, is all about smthe safety of her friends. But as the story continues, they grow closer and closer and start developing feelings for eachother.

Miss Peregrine: I adore Miss Peregrine, she cares so much about every single child in her special orphanage and she dies everything she can to keep everyone safe. She's the most selfless person in this book, and come on, she can shapeshift in a bird!

That's awesome.

My opinion:

This book, oh my god, gave me chills. Wow, it's one of the best Young-Adult novel I've everread. It holds such a complicated story and impressive photography. It kept me interested till the very mast page and I can't wait to continue reading Hollow City, the sequel.

And ofcourse, I can't wait for the movie to come out.

I recommend this book to, honestly, everyone who loves a good Fantasy novel! Good job, Ransom Riggs!

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell - Book Review

Eleanor and Park - Rainbow Rowell

Publication date: February 26, 2013

Genre(s): Young adult, Romance

Summary:

From the moment Park first caught a glance of Eleanor, he knew he wouldn't like her. A chubby, redheaded, bad dressed loser, who was searching for a seat on the bus. No one let her sit down, but Park. But not very willingly. But not only Park wanted to avoid her at all costs, Eleanor wasn't fond of Park eather. She was scared of him. Just as she was scared of her stepdad, Richie. He was the reason Eleanor was sent to her aunt's house for a year. But now she's back home, unfortunately. Park was the only good thing in her life, even though he hated her and Eleanor hated him. At least that's what they believed

.

Their first affection happened, when Park caught Eleanor reading along with his comic books. He was annoyed at first, but still couldn't help himself from bringing comic books along for her to read. They started talking and their friendship was growing. Their feelings for eachother kept developing. But their love story wasn't without difficulties and certain complications.

Richie had no idea Eleanor and Park were involved in a loving way, and Eleanor wanted to keep it that way, because he didn't approve. But towards the end of the story, right when Eleanor and Park were fully commited to eachother. Richie finds the comic books, the cassette tapes and all the prove. He exploded and Eleanor was forced to leave. Will she? And will their love story continue the way it was? Or will they be forced to forget eachother?

Characters:

Eleanor: Eleanor is a shy, chubby loser who wears man clothes and is the worst at compining clothing pieces. No wonder Park shows no interest at all. But she doesn't care in the beginning, she thinks he's a stupid Asian boy, anyway.

Park: Park is a boy who's friends with the cool kids, but he's still nothing like them. He's kinder, sweeter and not that fond of himself as they were.

Others like Richie and Tina: are just doi'g everything they can to kill their love, without success.

My opinion:

I read this book in less than 48 hours, this book is almost impossible to put down, the story speaks to you and tells you to keep reading. It keeps the readers interested till the last page. Eleanor and Park are the cutest ever! And the story haunts you till weeks after reading! I for one, can't stop thinking about it!

I recommend this book for any Romance, cuteness loving person!

Fallen by Lauren Kate - Book Review

Fallen - Lauren Kate

Series: Fallen #1

Publication date: December 8, 2009

Genre(s): Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy

Summary:

After a terrible accident with her boyfriend, Lucinda (Luce) Price is sent to a boarding school. Sword & Cross. But she is still haunted by the shadows of her past, the same shadows she saw when her boyfriend was killed in a fire. She tries to ignore them and live her life but that doesn't seem to be as easy as she thought.

Luce thinks that the people she meets at Sword & Cross are nothing like her and hands down crazy. But as the story continues she begins growing closer to certain people, like Ariane, Penn and Cam. But out of all the people she meets, one in particular can't seem to dissapear from her mind. Daniël Grigori. And even though he shows no interest towards Luce, her attraction to this certain hottie doesn't seem to fade away.

She is determined to find out every last thing about him. Even if it costs her her life.

And so as the story continues, and Luce keeps growing closer to Daniël, she gets more and more involved in the strangest adventures and she keeps finding out the darkest secrets about Daniël and the rest of her friends. Will their love story be endless, despite the complication. Or will it die, because of their love for eachother being impossible to keep.

Characters:

Luce: Luce is a shy girl, who won't tell her opinion on someone to their face quickly. She is haunted by her past and scarred for life. But her love for Daniël is more powerful than anything

Ariane: Ariane is one of my favorite characters in this book, because she reminds me a lot of a friend of mine. She's a weird yet funny girl who has been the sweetest to Luce from the moment she arrived. Ariane doesn't have a care in the world and goes with the flow.

Penn: I love Penn! She helps Luce throughout the entire book and I adore her selflessness. She cares so much for people and is always friendly.

Cam: He is a nice guy who's not afraid to show his obvious attraction to Luce, he's crushing on her till the very last page, even though he can never compete to Daniël in Luce' eyes.

Daniël: Daniël is a mysterious and extremely handsome boy who keeps catching Luce' eye. And even though he keeps falling for Luce over and over, he shows no interest in the beginning. But as they grow closer, he dares to admit his feelings.

My opinion:

I loved this book! It kept me in its grip till the last few words. The mystery keeps the reader interested and this book won't bore you!

I love Young adult fantasy novels. And if you're the same and have these interests as well, this is the perect book for yoyu, but even if you're not a fan of this genre, this book will change your mind.

Make sure to go read it!
